a former co-worker sent me an old markup of a topo map he says was done by an old cowboy of the Cave Creek area. It has the trails mapped and shows quite a few that I haven't seen mapped anywhere else. It does show the Trail 247A that GPSJoe did a description on. It also points out where the gates and the crested saguaros are. I don't know if anyone has seen this before, but I thought I'd share it with everyone.

Re: Old Markup of Cave Creek Area
Thanks, that is pretty slick.
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

Re: Old Markup of Cave Creek Area
It looks like it's available for sale based on the $7.45 price tag on the bottom.
Stiller, the new trails you are talking about, are they on the North side of #4, on the other side of the creek?
Also, I didn't know there was an airplane crash up there.
Has anyone ever seen the Rock House - Freight & Stage stop on their travels down #4?
Thanks for sharing....

Re: Old Markup of Cave Creek Area
I read somewhere that the owner of the ranch crashed his airplane and had to walk back to town to get help. If I recollect, he died. The rest of the story goes that the ranch was sold after that. I don't know if that's the same crash though or which crash site. Anyway, I can go back to the book I was reading to see if I can re-visit that. (Of course, I have to see if I can figure out where I stashed the book).
Oh and I just noticed there are two crash sites (one to the west of the Spur Cross TH and the one to the north of the TH)

Re: Old Markup of Cave Creek Area
the new trails I saw looked like they were to the south, SE of 247A. I know I saw a junction going in that direction when I hiked it 2 weeks ago.
I saw the price tag, not sure where you could buy this. The guy who gave it to me said he got it from a client. I only gave it a cursory glance last night, but intend to spend more time poring over it and comparing it to other maps. I figured it would be nice to post it right away for everyone to see for whoever is interested.

Re: Old Markup of Cave Creek Area
This is the best collection of the current trails in that area that I've seen.
I believe this is a GPSJoe creation.

Re: Old Markup of Cave Creek Area
Thanks much for sharing as I live about 10 minutes South of Spur Cross and spend a lot of time in that area.
Coanbru... I've bushwhacked down the north side of Skull Mesa and been on the trail that goes by the marked Rock House-Fright Station, but did not see it. Maybe it's a ways off the trail, or one of those times I had my head down trying to make time.
