Lobsterquest 2002 - We're back

Post by Pellegrino »

Hi Everyone

We're back! Whew what a trip..........our lobsterquest took us nearly 7000 mi. across this great country of ours.........from here to Cape Cod and back which included 17 states and 2 countries (thanks to crossing in to Canada at Niagra Falls). We should have titled the trip lobster/steakquest as we found the worlds best steaks in the heartland. We took I-40 from here to Tennessee, then explored the east coast for a week and then back via I-80.

Unfortunately not much "hiking" except the intense walks we took every morning to keep those muscles functioning. We stayed mostly at National Forest Parks and State Parks which we highly recommend. All but one had exceptionally clean showers and even that one wasn't too bad. The only place we stayed that I didn't like was the privately owned camp site which I found pretty funny.

Some of the honorable places of mention.............Graceland; Elvis appears to be dead but his house lives on! Blue Ridge Mtns. this drive slowed us down finally and was a welcome relief from I-40 - Tennessee is just beautiful. Wash D.C. - fyi don't drive by the White House in a van more than 8 times at 6 a.m. to arise suspicion. Bridges; ferry boats - they are a blast. Montauk, N.Y. - bypass the Hamptons and the fun begins! Love the clam shacks along the road, just belly on up to the bar for a wonderful treat. Our first look at the Atlantic Ocean - then trying to pry ourselves away. Cape Cod, Plymouth Rock, Mayflower II, N.Y. City - oops, I missed a turn and we ended up on 34th St next to the Empire State Building. Mystic CT, Niagra Falls, Buffalo NY - is there a good side of town - couldn't find no wings. Lake Erie State Park - Gorgeous. Nebrasksa - awesome State Parks and Steaks. Rocky Mtns - to think I was in a blizzard at the Continental Divide yesterday.

We found out why our country is so awesome. We met wonderful, extremely patriotic people in every state and really had no problems. It was super exciting to see the Welcome to Arizona sign last nite tho and this trip did confirm for me that Arizona ROCKS! I froze for the last few days up north and it was great to roll the windows down in Payson and all the way home.

I did miss the website tho so wanted to jump on this a.m. and say hi. Good luck to everyone on your GC trips.
Kelly :)

Wow! That was the most fully-packed trip description I've ever seen! I want to go to all those places now!
Good advice about driving past the White House.
