Over due Mazatzal Hiker

Post by Sredfield »

A hiker named Randy Simpson sent a resupply package to the LF Ranch on the Verde River, north end of the Mazatzals. He was to pick it up Thursday or Friday, and has not not done so as of Saturday afternoon.

Does anyone have any information? Search and Rescue is about to be notified. If so, email me at sredfield@cox.net

Word is he hiked into the Mazatzals from Cave Creek area. Trails on the west side, (and elsewhere) are not maintained and the trail he was on disappeared. (Don't know what trail it was, not the Divide trail I'm told.) So he ended the trip and because the LF Ranch is so remote and has no working means of communication, he had no way to contact the owner and tell her he wasn't coming. She alerted people when he didn't show at his planned time. Sheriff's office found his location ( I believe someone went out to the ranch but that's only an assumption based on what little I'm know. ) and contacted him at home.

Glad this ended well.
