Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area - safe?

Post by bellagio »

Hello, everyone. I have been searching online to try to find out if this trail is safe for a solo female (and a little dog). I have gone on it with others biking, and recently went alone with my dog, but I always feel a little uncomfortable on the trail because of the area of town it's in and how little it's used (I usually only run across one or two men when on it). I have seen transients and stray dogs on occasion on the trail. It is a beautiful trail and the location is very convenient, but I would hate for anything to happen to me or my dog. :scared:

I think you answered your own question.

I don't think you'll find anybody here who is going to go against your own personal "gut feeling" and tell you to send somebody you care about out there on their own. It may be perfectly safe 99 out of 100 times you visit. My initial thought mirrors yours based on where it's located. But I've never been there, so I can't add any firsthand advice.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Thank you! I will definitely avoid it since I've been hesitant about it in the first place.

A little snub-nosed revolver would help keep you safe.

I agree gut feeling is usually the best to go by. Better safe than sorry. Also if you are planning on doing things solo you might want to look into at least getting a can of mace, or a civilian taser. Mace is good for humans, great for dogs. Taser can be used on humans and dogs, thought its a one shot so mace might be better for you. Then there is the gun route, just if you do that please please please get proficient in it. Take a class, know someone with a gun, use it and know it before you carry it. The way I look at it, is just how we look at all of our gear. Better to have had and not needed than needed and not had.
