My GF and I are looking for a backpacking hike that is maybe a 1-5 miles (shorter hike = more 12oz cans), with a fishing hole as our destination. We are looking for some solitude if possible. We probably don't want any official campgrounds as that means there is a road in. I'm not even sure if there are lakes in AZ without official campgrounds around them. Seems like Forest service always takes over the lakes.
I looked at Chevelon Lake, but I think that's more of a lake to just hike into (3/4 mile) opposed to hike into to camp at. And it's hot now, so obviously higher elevation is better.
Looking for 1-5m backpack in, destination fishing.

I think Chevelon will work, it is pretty high up, and you can always backpack on down along the creek below the dam where there are lots of swimming holes. I don't know about fishing, since I don't fish. I would have said go to the Black River, but we all know that is not going to be possible this year, due to the Wallow Fire.
