Interesting an earlier article stated it was cost effective to suppress wildland fires than to thin the forest except for areas along the wildland/urban interface. Communities along these interface should adopt the wildland/interface fire code. Debated in the rim communities last year but not adopted. In the past thinning projects on the forest was called clearcutting which changed to a policy of not cutting trees within 1/4 mile of scenic roads and trails. The forest have been altered by management both good and bad. The higher tree densities could also be that the forest are evolving into higher densities irregardless of our managment policies. The decline of our domestic lumber industry is not the result of enviromental policies, but the result of the balance of trade.
