Mint spring trailhead

Post by Deray28 »

I wanted to do the Mint Spring trail on Mt Lemmon last weekend and I couldn't find the trailhead on Summerheaven.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I found the sign that said the trailhead was to the right of the road near
the Marshall Gulch parking lot but after that I got lost. :scared:

Thank you!

Directions are here, listed under "M" http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=1209

but we always started from Carter Canyon before the fire. However this description mentions the fire.

From the Marshall Gulch parking area/trailhead I believe that you need to hike up the Marshall Gulch trail #3 (about a mile-ish+)
to Marshall saddle - at the saddle, Mint Spring Trail #20 is signed - this would be the southern terminus of the trail. Expect quite a few burned trees and maybe some deadfall on the Mint Sp. trail.

I did see the sign for it on the Marshall Saddle but I would like to start it from the opposite side so I don't have to do Marshall Gulch trail again ;)

Then you have to start in Carter Canyon, which is right there in Summerhaven. Before the fire, the trailhead was at the end of that road. Not sure what changes the fire has caused.

T/H parking is not readily apparent, but it is likely that turnout just east of the house with the red roof at the end of the road. I believe that the trail heads just about due south from that point, up the hill.

A friend of mine led the Tucson Hikers Meetup group on a Mint Springs a couple of weeks ago and the only thing he said about it were that the wildflowers were fantastic. If there was rampant deadfall I would imagine he would have mentioned it. I think they parked at Carter Canyon TH.
