Fellow HAZers (Winter HAZFest 2012)
Edit: For Updated Info See top of page 7 of this thread:

So I went to this squirrel party and met a few HAZers.. I want to know when we all are getting together for some camping event. Not to mentiom; it's about time our friend AZPride takes a rope to the top.. How about Cochise?! -- hiking maybe climbing, car camping in style? (My car camping still includes cooking on a fire and sleeping in a tent.)

You're a little vague on details, and for some reason it won't let me say interested or committed. But count me in. Sounds fun.

I think she needs to set a date before it will let people sign up as interested/committed.

Lets make it an annual event where we can roast Joe and give credit for some of the most unusual photos and hilarious comments.
April 1st sounds good to me and I will come with my mask off.

I'm interested, make it in summer in the high country. I'll be gone April 1st.

You've seen my idea of car camping: http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=198873Hikergirl81 wrote: car camping in style? (My car camping still includes cooking on a fire and sleeping in a tent.)

Re: Fellow HAZers
@nonot- well, I'm a better co-pilot than pilot when it comes to trip planning so we may have a problem.. I was looking for a group opinion. I probably just posted in the wrong area.
Chumley mentioned watching a meteor shower. The dark skies of Cochise usually makes for an amazing sight even without a shower. I can say watching a meteor show from the top of Sheepshead sounds amazing- I'd prob sleep up there.
You know- Liz is a bit like Rainman when it comes to stars. ;)
(The one predicted for December has a moon affecting its visability.)

I think the Navajo Reservation is ideal for a car camping trip this time of year. That or the south-east Utah BLM lands. Really nice in November.

Re: Fellow HAZers
I'm like Rainman? I'm also clueless. I don't get the connection. Dustin Hoffman. Never saw the movie, though.
I have to say, though, I really enjoyed the stars this past summer while on a 16-day GC river trip, because it was WARM at night, and you didn't have to freeze off any of your dearly beloved personal parts while trying to enjoy stargazing. And as for meteors, I saw them every single night last summer. So, seeing more of them is not necessarily all that much more exciting. I like learning the names of stars and constellations.

Re: Fellow HAZers
I think there might be a liz mixup ... and the best chance for a meteor shower really isn't until the Perseids in 2012. And the Leonids should be great. But that's 13 months away! And both are midweek so not the best opportunity for group camping trips. But there need not be space rocks falling from the sky to have a fun camping trip.

Re: Fellow HAZers
See- that is why it is essential to call you Lizard or Ms. Chaos- Less confusion!
I make such a mess of the forums; that is why I usually steer clear!
The party made me realize how awesome it would be to meet all of you that I only know by your avatar -or- spend more time with others that I have just hiked with. Group hiking is fun but the car camping (socializing) during the photo workshop last year was great fun!!
I have only had one cold Cochise trip the rest of the trips have been really nice. We usually go throughout the winter. BUT - I am not as good with the trip leader duties so I am open to anything.
