Best Mexican Food - Tucson
OK, Cindyl says I can do better than El Charro. Mrs. big_load has a thing for their salsa verde, so I'll have an uphill battle on my hands. Where should I really blow my post-hike calories in Tucson?

Nice steak house is close to the Front Range on River Road, El Corral, has BBQ ribs, is pretty good: http://www.traildusttown.com/index.php? ... &Itemid=78

Re: Best Mexican Food - Tucson
El Charro has a different style of food from most of the 'South Fourth' joints. Mi Nindito is no better than Rigos (my fave) or Crossroads (Mr. Wendy's fave) and definitely not worth the wait. The other two are just another 2 minutes south on 4th.
Of course, the taco stands are great - and many of them are getting down right regular, building restaurants around their cart's business. However, nothing beats a never ending bowl of chips-n-salsa and a pitcher of cold margaritas that you don't get at the stands...

I tried this one tonight and was quite satisfied. Unfortunately, I felt compelled to eat everything on my plate, so I'm still a bit full.cindyl wrote:Guillermo's (Double L) right across the street from Mi Nidito is better IMHO and without the wait - really good red chili sauce.

Famous Daves - Oracle Road, across from Tucson Mall. You can get your order served on a garbage can lid.big_load wrote:Is there any BBQ at all in Tucson?Jim_H wrote: I'm still waiting on a BBQ recommendation.

I don't count that as real BBQ, although I've certainly had worse.chulavista wrote:Famous Daves

No, Famous Dave's is not very good, which is why I suspect they mention the garbage can. Sonny's out of Florida is actually good for a chain, and the price is good, too. Still, and I don't know why Liz didn't get this, I was hoping for as serious local recommendation as Jake was able to give me for Waldo's in Mesa.

Oh. Well, okay. Can't help you there. I have eaten at that steak house that has BBQ ribs, El Corral on River Road. It's pretty good. Nice ambience. Their menu is online. However, despite having eaten there two or three times, I can't remember what I ate there. I'm not much of a foodie.

Re: Best Mexican Food - Tucson
take this with a grain of salt because i haven't eaten here in years, but jack's original bbq on the east side used to have a reputation for being really good. doesn't look like it's gotten good reviews recently...but you could always try.
all the best mexican looks like it's been covered. guadalajara grill for traditional mexican, poca cosa for "new wave" mexican, and el guerro canelo for sonoran hot dogs.

I was thinking of jack's too, but also haven't been there for years. I certainly wouldn't drive out of my way just to try it, again, and it probably is out of your way.
