Dispersed campng around Mnt Graham?

Post by paulhubbard »

We're thinking of going to the Hospital Flats area over Labor day, but we fear there may not be any campsite available by the time we get there. Is there dispersed camping in the area, or are we limited to established campgrounds/campsites?

Thanks, Paul

There is quite a bit of dispersed camping up there from about Hospital Flat all the way to the end of the road by Clark Peak. Plus, Snow Flat and Treasure Park have a good number of spots. There is a group area on the other side of the road from Hospital Flat which may be available. I have camped there several times and it is nice. Last week when I camped at Columbine Corrals, our group was the only one there. CP Flat near Clark Peak road end has some nice spots too. I don't know how it will play out on the holiday weekend, but my guess is it won't be as crowded as earlier in the year.

We used to drive all the way to the end of the road by the Clark Peak trailhead and hang a left, there were some spots down in there.

@azbackpackr
That's where I saw a heard of coatimundi when I was about eight. Must have been six or eight of them :)

Thanks for the info everyone! Hope to see a herd(?) of coatimundis! Black Bears are welcome to stay on the other side of the mountain...
