Needle Peak
This Organ Mountains high point hike is being staged by the Las Cruces Meetup.com hiking group. Sounds as if it will be taken at a slower pace to accommodate us older folks. They are bringing a rope (making me carry it) to help around the exposed scramble near the top? Check out the details over on the Meetup page

Re: Needle Peak
I've already got my motel reservation in Las Cruces for this; plan on being there. Let's hope for dry weather!

Re: Needle Peak
Very nice! JohnLP and I were just there. I don't believe a rope is needed but if it makes people feel more comfortable then by all means. Looking forward to reading your trip reports.

Re: Needle Peak
Wow... the Las Cruces Meetup.com group has 15 hikers signed up for this trek... it will be interesting how many folk they can get to the top. Sounds as if they are also focused on clearing out the route (overgrown?). Should be an interesting day.

Re: Needle Peak
Should be a perfect day for it... lows into the 30's the night before... highs in the 60's... cold front to blow in Friday!! I'm not really back in shape for it, but it should be nice...

@imike
The trail is a little overgrown, mostly in the upper reaches. It can use some TLC for sure.

Re: Needle Peak
If it turns out you need a break...come on over. Also, we are doing Mule Canyon up to Mule Peak on Sunday... not as dramatic an outing, but a fair representation of the area canyon cuts. See the details over on the Las Cruces Meetup.com page...Jim_H wrote:I would love to get out and do this, but I am still moving in.
