School delay of two hours today here in Round Valley. We got only about 3 inches, but they like to wait for the plows and cinder trucks to do their jobs, so that the school buses and parents can drive the kids safely.

Ice scraper came out to deal with the light skim on my truck windows this morning. Frozen condensation, and the wipers wouldn't move it!

I've had to deal with a frosted windshield about a half dozen times in the last month or so. It's avoidable if I can snag the parking spot under the tree. This morning my wife had the spot under the tree, and her windshield was frost-free, whereas mine was nice and frosty.

Learned this trick after moving here - stand your windshield wipers up straight when parked overnight, or for the day ... that way they don't freeze to the windshield.
Ah, winter ... love it!

geez, after all those cold winters in Montana; this is the first time I've heard of such a thing. And in this case, better late than never, doesn't matter anymore :D

That's standard procedure here where we get snow or freezing rain a few times per week. Even so, I often skip that step. Wiper blades don't last long around here anyway.

It finally warmed up enough this afternoon so that I don't have to wear a stocking cap to keep my ears warm. It's sunny, and I am sure it's in the very balmy 40's right now! Almost bikini weather!

Oh my! I suppose that could work under the right conditions, but it could be a real mess under the wrong ones.

We also use the aluminum covered bubblewrap like for your windshield on the inside for the sun.. then in the winter can be for a frost shield. (we don't have a garage and have to scrape frost regularly if we don't do something... you can shut it in the windows or door too... on the sides....or one with ties you can put around your mirrors...

This is my 14th winter in the cold country. Even now I very frequently forget that it will take 10 to 15 minutes to prepare my car to take it to work under certain conditions. This morning I forgot, but fortunately I was going to be subbing at the school closest to my house, so I just walked.

Electricity my friends! Place a small electric heater on the front floor of your car and attach to it an extension cord from your house. Plug in the heater/extension cord a calculated time before departing depending on the weather conditions. Maybe just turn on the breaker for the circuit the outlet is on from the inside of your house!

1) A warm car interior
2) No frozen doors or door locks
3) Clear windows front, sides and maybe rear
4) @ THE SEATS AND STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT BE ICY COLD!! :y:

I did this all winter long while living through a winter in Illinois recently and it works wonders!

Only had to plug it in for an hour or less before departure depending on the weather.

And this even during ice storms.

It might just work, if I could only remember to go out there and do it. Generally, though, I start the car, and turn on the front and rear defrosters and let it run for a little while, and do a bit of scraping with the tool. One time I forgot and left it running, though, and it sat there for an hour. I felt so bad, my nice little old car, but it seemed to be okay after suffering through that.

Let's face it. I don't want to live in the cold country. I'm outa here as soon as I can pull it off.

Back in Iowa, I had an electric heater in line with the lower radiator hose. It had enough power to induce convective flow of the coolant through the engine. I didn't do anything for the windshield, though.

Two of my favorite features on my Subaru are the heated seats and the external mirror defrosters. All I need now is a heated steering wheel. Actually, clearing the windshield is never a problem. The hard ice is usually thawed by the time I have the roof clear.

More snow and rain for Arizona. Things ought to be greening up soon.

Actually, I noticed moist soil and small plants starting to grown last week, from chandler to Coolidge, and in the low desert in between Florence and Tucson. It was refreshing. I was really impressed with how wet the soil was in the desert, so it had to be from rain. My hope, is that in a few weeks, spring will be in full swing in Arizona, with both native plants starting to grow and flower, and exotic things like Live Oaks in Tucson beginning to grow.
