Bee Swarm - North Mountain

Post by SpiderLegs »

Just a heads up if you hike up the backside of North Mountain, there is a pretty aggressive swarm of bees up there. Not on the trail to goes up from Trail 60, but the lightly used trail further north on the mountain that starts from Trail 100. So if anyone saw a crazy looking guy flying down the mountain and cursing like a sailor this afternoon, that was me. Got stung a bunch of times on my head and could feel the little buggers crawling around in my hair. Stopped to catch my breath about 400 yards from the swarm and they were still chasing me. I have never seen bees that aggressive before while out hiking. Guess I need to add bees to the list of what to watch out for when hiking in Arizona.

I totally agree!! ;) I wouldn't want to find out 1749 is OK but 1 more and I wouldn't have made it :lone: I'm not real happy when just 1 gets me!

Well 10 stings was enough for me. Don't know what was worse, getting stung or feeling multiple bees crawling through my hair. Still gives me the creeps.

Had a swarm fly over the car today while driving near Dobbins Lookout. Actually had a few bounce off the windshield. Luckily none of them flew in the open window. :scared:

Wanted to give everyone a heads up. There is a new bee hive just east of the saddle on the peak trail on lookout mountain. It is right on the trail, close to the ground in a hole in the rocks. It looked like a permanent hive but its still kind of small. WATCH OUT!! :o

@SpiderLegsNo wonder I don't get stung. I hike just like I walked in Idaho.
