@BEEBEE
sucks that our governor is finding a way to use a tragedy to suck some money out of the Federal government again. We've had way bigger fires. If Brewer really cared maybe she'd try and help get those Hotshots' families the benefits they're being denied instead of looking for FEMA money she can skim from. I haven't seen any response to that issue from our governor. I love her disdain for big federal government overreach-- except for when she needs it. She's disgusting. Maybe her buddies at CCA could get into the disaster recovery business

Re: Yarnell Hill Fire
Here is the state's request for assistance. The main reason for denial is probably the state's lack of knowledge about whether they actually need the assistance:

Had the state put some effort into their request, maybe it would have gone through. Unfortunately it looks like all they did was copy some census info.
How does one "feel" uninsured?While the exact levels of insurance coverage are yet to be determined, based on an
informal survey conducted by the county at the community meetings, it is estimated that
approximately 70% of the residents feel they are uninsured or underinsured.

@BEEBEE
I'm not arguing against giving federal aid-- I'm all for those folks being helped by the feds. I would be stoked if my federal taxes went to that cause. I'm saying that the local government turned their backs on the families and Brewer doesn't seem to care since her pockets can't get between the money and the people. I'm also saying that she did a botched job on the request-- it's like she wasn't even trying because she thought all the media about the deaths would force it through.

Actually, Arizona gets more money back than it send to the Feds. But that was not what I was saying, and the thread is deviating from the fire itself.

Re: Yarnell Hill Fire
The reason we get more back is the 3 Military Bases, Federal land, National Parks and Indian Reservations

Re: Yarnell Hill Fire
I think we are discussing long-term effects of the fire so I don't think we are necessarily deviating. And maybe its because half of HAZ is at HAZfest-- but we're being pretty respectful to each others' views for onceJim_H wrote:Actually, Arizona gets more money back than it send to the Feds. For the record we are discussing this at hazfest and the only disrespect being shown is to the people who aren't here. ;)
