poored rain here for awhile, now its just drizzlin', first rain of the monsoon to my knowledge (completely soaked the inside of my car too, this one caught me off guard)

Folks, this thread is dangerously close to overtaking the 'Hiking While Nude' and 'Best Mexican Restaurants in Globe/All Restaurants/All Things Food' threads in terms of the number of posts. I'm starting to get worried.

I suppose you don't see many haboobs living in Flag. Like Joe said, we get a few every summer down here in the desert.

Sometimes the TV helicopters' camera would catch them as they happened...dramatic!

It also means we're that much closer to cooler weather...I received an email this morning
that said it was 122 degrees in Iraq in the daytime and 111 last night, sorta makes it seem
not soooo hot here.

Extreme stuff! I was driving my wife down to Tucson yesterday, and around 6pm at I-10/202, we met the haboob head on. We were in constant blowing dust of varying density between then and Avra Valley. Intense dust and wind, some rain. When we got into Tucson itself the lightning was putting on one heck of a show. I'll post up some pictures when I get 'em downloaded.

It must be monsoon season again, we just had a great storm up here. Lots of heavy rain, lighting, thunder and a little wind. It blew in from the northeast and developed as it did so. I got to watch it start from a big mass of dark swirling clouds to some lighting and then the heavy downpour. Very nice. I think I'm lucky I got off the Peaks dry today, even though they don't seem to be getting anything.

Rain in this arid state, should naturally be the most popular topic of conversation.

When was that? There was a storm that came up from the Black Canyon in to the Verde Valley late Sunday into early Monday.

Back in May someone made the prediction that the Monsoon would be weak this year. It seems that has come true. I don't know how its been around the rest of the state, but Flagstaff has had less than 50% of normal for the month (we've had 1 inch), and many areas around here have not even come close to that. It seems that if we had not had the really wet May, things would be in pretty bad shape this summer. Perhaps August will provide?
