It's cutting loose in Flagstaff. In fact as I write this, in Doney Park, we are having strikes of lightning very close, and hard rain.

I hiked Elden today and had a nice light rain falling on me all the way down.

Yesterday there was flooding in the Sunnyside part of town, due to damage from the Museum Fire, which was 2 years ago. I suspect it is occurring again right now.

Since you mention it, no, it didn't (quite literally). With three muggy days of no power with temps in the 90s, garbage day included most of the contents of everyone's refrigerators. Needless to say, the garbage trucks were over capacity this week, and they left a a puddle of disgusting slurry in front of almost every house. Unfortunately, that was after it rained, not before.

I forgot to mention, last week we got heavy smoke in NJ ducted from the Oregon fire for a couple days. Surprisingly, we've otherwise had good air quality all summer.

Major storm hit just before midnight in Tucson and raged on for over an hour. Although there was very little wind, there was lots of lightning and rain. Closest county rain gauge recorded 2.28" and based on the intensity of what kept me awake that seems about right.

Sabino Canyon flashed around 1:30am with a near-instantaneous jump from zero to 11.8ft / 8740 cfs. That's still somewhat below the flood that caused so much damage in 2006, but the this weather pattern is just getting started. If the storms continue like this then there's a good chance for more major flooding in the canyon.

There are some impressive rain totals across the state. The Show Low area got pummeled with 4"-6" of rain. Much of the PHX east valley has seen significant rainfall, focused on south Scottsdale with 2"-3". Indian Bend Wash is running. As AndrewP mentioned, the Tucson metro has a lot of 2"-4" totals and all the washes coming out of the Catalinas and Rincons are flowing. Rillito is currently over 10,000cfs. Grab the kayaks!

Got up very early this morning at 2 AM to watch the rain and lightening show. The wind had knocked my two little kayak's off the back porch and into the back yard and this morning I found them floating around like they were in 7th heaven! It was ton of rain but I forgot to set up my rain gauge the night before so I can't even guess how much rain I received but my home in Queen Creek is just south Power Road and Germann. Tomorrow morning I will have to drive out Apache trail to see how it faired in the storms. :y:

The other joys of monsoon. To drive 35 min to a store that normally takes 10 min to find the whole complex without power. Lost of trees down, poles down and debris all over the place. Good thing I don't have to go to the local bank today.

Coronado NF has posted a few photos from Sabino Canyon. Included is a notice of temporary closure of the recreation area as well as a number of Pusch Ridge trails:

USGS gauge at the dam has current flow at 3390 cfs and relatively steady which is about 100x the peak flow during the spring runoff... more than 1000x the average during the spring.

Pima County flood control map is showing 24hr rain totals of 4.76" in Pima Canyon at Table Mesa and 2.44" on Finger Rock ridge just south of Mt. Kimball.

We had a steady rain here in Doney Park, Flagstaff, for about 9 hours I think. It finally stopped just after 4 a.m. I can't seem to find any information about the Sunnyside area of town overnight. I have errands to run, so I sort of wanted to see if Route 66 was closed again due to rivers of black water coming off of the mountain.
