Oct. 26 (UPI) -- A man hiking through Arizona captured video of a bizarre "once in a lifetime" scene -- a rattlesnake hitching a ride on the back of a desert tortoise.

It looks staged. It looks like he put the snake on the tortoise with a snake hook. I should know. I stage photos all the time, except mine don't make the media because I'll admit to staging them. Nonetheless, it's a great video/photo.

@gummo
Maybe, but I do know it's fairly common that rattlers share the same dens with others such as tortoises and Gila Monsters. I also heard that the photographer went to photograph the tortoise and didn't know the rattlesnake was there until it climbed on.

No big deal the snake just wanted to ride shotgun.

@gummo
You should put one of those tiny baby dbacks you always find on the back of a Gila Monster and make a video of that. Then maybe put both of them on a tortoise. Or a coatimundi!

Oh I find that hard to believe. I admire the natural settings you photograph in.gummo wrote: I should know. I stage photos all the time, except mine don't make the media because I'll admit to staging them.

@chumley
I might try to duplicate this shot. I just have to figure out how to squeeze the tortoise under the snake.
