Printing Arizona Trail topo maps

I tried to get the topo maps printed at FedEx and they would not print them because of copyright issues. Does anyone have any suggestions on printing the topo maps?

I’m not sure which Topo maps for the AZT you are trying to print. But USGS topographic quadrangles are generally copyright free. (Along with nearly all other government-furnished maps).

If the maps you want to print are created by or supplemented with data that is created by another entity that claims copyright then printing them or copying them falls under a gray area of the law.

If it’s just the plain usgs maps, bring the link above and explain that it isn’t restricted. If it’s a copyright map, contact the rights holder for permission to print it.

I don't know what FedEx/Kinko's/etc. would charge IF they would even print the full set, but I'm guessing the cost would be comparable, if not more than the best option, directly from AZT:

Thank you for your reply. As of right now I'm not looking for the full set I just wanted to six of the maps printed and it would depend on whether I wanted them in black and white or in color if they would be cheaper than the Arizona Trail Association $45 set.

Thank you for your reply. The maps I want printed are the ones that are included in the membership of the Arizona Trail Association. Information that comes with the access to the maps that comes with the membership suggest professional printing. But it also speaks of a copyright. The Arizona Trail Association maps are derived from the USGS maps but have been modified by the Arizona Trail Association.

Also I think if your money is green they will print several full sets (;

I utilize USGS 7.5 min topo maps and make copies of them and then draw my planned routes that I may obtain info from several sources. I then make another copy of my edited map and leave a copy with trip plans with someone.
