Diamond Fire
The Diamond Fire currently burning near Sunflower is gonna be bad news. Currently at 1,400 acres with 0% containment, moving directly towards the Mazatzal's.
They've burned out around the houses/ranches on the west side of 87 in Sunflower, other then that they have not done much on the offensive side. Buddy of mine who used to work with the FS says they are taking a defensive approach with it, which we've seen what that does to wilderness areas the past few years. Lets hope the Monsoon drops in over that area soon!

Hiking is just walking where it’s okay to pee.

Re: Diamond Fire
It’s probably burning toward the 2012 Sunflower Fire. Might clear out some of that manzanita and locust.
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

Re: Diamond Fire
We've been watching this as well. Inciweb is putting up some pathetic maps, the scale does little to let you know specifics-like how much of the new AZT route we built last year has burned. (I'm afraid most of it.)
On the Backbone fire a couple years ago I had a link to a much better map. I believe i got from a FS employee, and understood they used internally. Does anyone have that link?

Re: Diamond Fire
Go to inciweb and on the main page, zoom in to the fire of interest and change to aerial (or aerial labelled) view, you can see the road that forms the northeastern boundary of the fire. This will give you more detail than is shown in the summary map on the map tab of the specific fire.
