Long, yet flat hikes?

Post by Shi »

I'm looking for a hike near the city, roughly 8-10 miles in length. It does need to be semi flat with little scree or rocks. Does any one have any idea of what trail would meet these requirements? TIA, Mary

Get a USGS topo map for the desert flats near your area and explore. Would recommend weekday hikes due to off road traffic. Take note of the areas adjacent to the watercourses you may come across prehistoric sites.

Trail 100 in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve runs from 19th Ave to Tatum Blvd. There are multiple trailheads where a second vehicle could be left, or it can be done in-and-out. Weekdays are best to avoid the mountain bike traffic, though. : dog :

McDowell Mountain Park. I've only biked there. Pemberton is relatively flat and long and has some nice desert. There are various loops you could do.

It's $5 to get in, or at least that's what it was about 6 months ago.

Have fun!
