In response to bobbyblue's reply:
Welcome to HAZ.

GROUPS
Kurt's advice is excellent. Friends is an active group. But also look at some of the other groups.

You can get to the Groups listing on HAZ in a couple of ways. On the home page there is a line that says "Members" to the right is the word Groups. Click on this box. You can also go to the dropbox next to Members, scroll down to Groups and click. Either way you get to a list of hiking Groups. Clicking on these links will take you to the Group's page and you can view scheduled hikes.

Through HAZ, I learned about AOTC (Arizona Outdoor Travel Club) and the Sierra Club hiking group. I tried a hike with each as a guest, and I joined each group. Having hiking partners who know some very interesting hikes and splitting the cost of travel has more than paid for the membership fees. The "secret handshake" to these groups is 1) being capable of completing and enjoying the hike, and 2) being the kind of person that other people want to be with.

WHO ARE YOU?
Right now you are a total mystery. If you log some of the hikes that you've hiked and your representative times, this will let others know what kind of a hiker you are and what hikes you like to hike. You can also add some hikes to your "Wish List". This let's other members know what hikes you are interested in. A picture or logo also gives us an indication of your "character" (and there are definitely some characters on HAZ). :o ]

Here is my rhetorical rant, (it is not directed at you)
I am always intrigued by hikers who put a hike on their "Wish list" but have no other hikes listed in their member profile. :? I look at the Wish Lists for hikes that I'm considering. If you put a hike on your wish list, I want to know that you can hike it. If you have no hikes listed in your member profile, or the only hike on your profile is 4 hours to hike 2 miles on the Bajada Trail, you and I will not be hiking together. Not that I'm saying there is anything wrong with taking 4 hours to hike 2 miles on the Bajada Trail; I'm just saying that your idea of hiking enjoyment and my idea of hiking enjoyment are not compatible.

Hope you find some good hiking friends.

Good Rant, AllinAZ! I realize that I have not given up much about myself either on this site (only one triplog) despite using the site over and over to gather information. In the future, I will start giving back in terms of writing up triplogs and adding hikes to my wish list!!

Found anyone yet? I'm looking for someone to just go hike Squaw Peak or Camelback with every other morning around 5:30 am. At least three times a week anyway. But I'm so poorly self motivated unless I have a commitment i.e. meet me there at 5:30 type of thing. I am always punctual and as a rule NEVER miss an appointment. I live in Tempe, too so may easier to go in one vehicle?
