Here's the Daily Sun article describing approval of the loop trail (plus a map of completed and non-completed sections):

If you're too lazy to read the links, here's the general run-down. When completed the Flagstaff Loop Trail will be 42 miles in length, about 20 of which will utilize already built and maintained single-track and FUTS trails (FUTS = Flagstaff Urban Trails System). The other half of trail needs to be built or converted from old double track or social trails. Not only will it completely surround the city with non-motorized multi-use trail, connector trails (most of which are already constructed) will link the loop to all areas of Flagstaff.
Most of the trail won't be incredibly interesting (flat-land with ponderosa pine forest) but it is a cool idea. I personally have visions of all-day 42 mile bike rides without having to touch motorized-use roads or repeat a section of trail.
