Cool wildlife sighting

Post by sirena »

Last night, I was walking the road in Sabino, and I saw a baby Gila Monster! It was only about an inch wide and about 8 inches long. It was in the road, but couldn't get up the steep curb, so I took a stick and helped it back up so that it could return to the desert. I took a bunch of pictures and a movie of it, and reviewed them quickly before finishing my walk. But when I got home- there were no pictures on the memory card! My camera doesn't have an internal memory, either, so they can't be on there. So weird. The lack of pictures is disappointing, but it was still one of the best wildlife sightings I've ever had.

Don't get to see too many of them. Really sorry that there are no pix. :(

I hadn't heard of that one, but I'm a little out of date. Maybe I should send them my itinerary.

I witnessed a family of javalina crossing a dirt forest service road with some newborns, one of which was to small to climb up and over the berm left by a motorgrader. One of the adults returned and boosted him over by putting their snout under the little ones behind and boosting him up and over. I laughed for about five minutes afterwards as it was so funny to watch!

Last hike I took a picture of javelina who refused to move despite me pulling up right beside him/her. It appeared to be enjoying a cactus pad.

In April I saw my first Gila Monster in the wild doing the Hackberry Springs loop in the Superstitions. Born and raised in AZ just had never run across one. Funny thing is it was about 100 yards from a Rattlesnake on the other side of the trail. I need to enter a triplog with pictures. Thanks for reminding me

We saw a gila monster IN TOWN today, making its way across the road, then thru the brush. This one was rather salmon colored, didn't look fully mature-kind of small. I never imagined seeing one is a populated area.
