Water Strategies on the Peaks

Post by Chich »

I was planning on doing a loop of the Peaks in a couple weeks: Kachina->Weatherford->Humpreys. Any suggestions on where I should cache water? I considered spending the first day hiking on the Weatherford from Shultz up to the Doyle Saddle and putting water there then camping back at the Snowbowl and starting the loop the following day with camp at the saddle. Is this a sound strategy or is there a different way that I could pull this off without the duplicate miles?

i did this, cached a gallon about a mile past Hart Prairie on the way up... then drove back to start hike at the Shultz tank, on the Kachina tr.
first day was about 8 miles, then i had to lug the gallon up the hill. if i had to do it again, it would be in the direction you suggest, counter-clkwse
squirrel!
