Fall GC hike

So, I've got my permit for Oct 31 - Nov 5 for a Grand Canyon backpack.
We will be hiking down Hermit, across the Tonto, and back up Bright Angel.
All my previous GC backpacks have been in May, and so I'm just not sure what to expect weather wise.

To be honest, I usually schedule backpacking for the warmer part of the year because I hate being cold. ;)

Some of you have so much more experience. Any thoughts/tips?
Is it usually still reasonably warm there in early November, or are we talking possiblity for snow on the upper part of the trails?

Snow hits the South Rim even in early November. If you have room in your vehicle, pack for 4-seasons (gear for winter to summer and in-between). Check with the weather forecast and Backcounty office, then make your gear selection and pack immediately before your hike. You run less of a chance of a big surprise.

Once you hike the Canyon in the 'fall/winter', you will never go back. It will be cooler than in May. You will be on the Tonto level, so temps will be wonderful, both day AND night. (BTW - I'll be hiking S. Bass to Hermit, same dates, maybe you could bring down some beers? )

Thanks for the info, all. Good ideas and thoughts. I certainly want to avoid carrying anything un-needed but I also don't want to be cold. hahahaha!!!
The good thing is we have a cargo van, so I could literally pack everything in the house, and then choose from it once there.
Doubt I'll ever become a true fall/winter hiker. My job requires constant spring and summer outdoor living/hiking and I guess I've gotten used to those temps.

BTW - I'll be hiking S. Bass to Hermit, same dates, maybe you could bring down some beers? )
