Navajo Mountain
Is anyone interested in Hiking Navajo Mountain, which is actually in Utah, but we can say it is in Arizona. If yes, we can work out a day to hike it. July 4th, some other day, I don't know. We can also arrange to meet someplace between my place in Kayenta, or near the mountain. The road in is now paved to very close to the start of the hike, I have been told. If anyone has a 4 wheel drive, so much the better as we can get further up the road. Otherwise, it will be a long hike, but that is a good thing, right? At it is, expect 10+ and 3500+ AEG. Like Humphrey views are best in winter, but they should still be excellent.

Re: Navajo Mountain
I would like to do that someday but via the old trail from War God springs ( I just love that name) if followable.

Re: Navajo Mountain
Color me interested. I was looking into walking the road with the trail for more elevation gain, but that was before I knew it was paved. I need to see how long the drive is because I work on the 5th and that seems a little tight.

Re: Navajo Mountain
I didn't know this was allowed by the tribe? If so, that's great!

Re: Navajo Mountain
Not allowed by the tribe unless you get special permission from Window Rock. I really want to do this hike, but I'd make sure it was on the up-and-up.

Re: Navajo Mountain
Yeah, I work on Sunday, and have some other plans I forgot about on Sunday night. Monday was the most ideal for me. Maybe I'll catch the next one.

Re: Navajo Mountain
While I would prefer to do a trail, like the War God Springs one, I can't information on it. I think the road is rough enough to make it more like a trail. SP pics make it look rough. I guess if no one is interested in this, I'll just do it when I can.

I'll bet if you asked around the area, you'd find a "guide" willing to take you up about any route you like.

Re: Navajo Mountain
Actually, the locals out by Inscription House seem to use the road. Easiest is best and most efficient with rural folk. Only city folk want it hard for recreation.
