Mt. Humphrey snow cover?

Post by azhiker96 »

Has anyone been to Flag lately? How much snow is on Humphrey? I'd like to hit it up before it gets too deep. :D

Drove home from the Canyon Sunday PM. Humphreys has a nice covering of snow down quite aways. Sorry I can't give you elevation, but its quite a bit. Weather report said snow level was 8500, that might be about right.

I'm contemplating on whether I should do Humphrey's this weekend. I was going to go backpacking in the Huachuca's but my hiking partner came down with pneumonia, what a wuss!!!

From what I saw Sunday, doing Humphreys now might be a real adventure. I'd get a local report on current snow conditons, you might be slipping and sliding over the rocks the last stretch to the summit.

Sound advice! I checked Snowbowl's website and they show 8" at 10,800'. I'll give the 'ol ranger man a call tomorrow to see what he says. The forcast says they could get snow on Saturday. That could make this quite an adventure. If the storm kicks up quite a bit I'll have to bag this one 'til the spring thaw. :D

azhiker- if you don't mind posting what you hear from the ranger I'd greatly appreciate it!

I've called twice today. Both times the "trail ranger" was out of the office. The folks in the office said they had icy conditions on the trail but thought they'd received a couple of inches of snow yesterday. There's about 8 inches at 10,800 and about a foot at the summit. They recommended crampons and said they'd call me back when the trail ranger returned. I'll post that when/if I hear back from him. My bigger concern is the weather we may have on Saturday. If it's light flurries then I am still game for the trail. If it looks like blizzard conditions then I'll hit a coffee shop or brewpub.
