On Valentine's Day we oculdn't hike Woods Canyon because the water was too high: 850+ cfs.
SO we drove through the mud on Verde Valley School Road and parked at the end. We walked what is called the Baldwin Trail to connect to the Templeton Trail and then up some switchbacks. After reaching that big red rock esplanade beneath Cathedral Rock we were thrilled to see about 2 dozen small waterfalls draining down practically every ledge in the area. We walked over to the Templeton's intersection with the Cathedral Rock Trail (the one that climbs to the saddle) and then returned. The Templeton travels right along Oak Creek, in some places less than one foot away from the water's edge. It is a much nicer way to get to the Cathedral Rock Trial (if you have time) than parking down below on the Back O Beyond Road. You will get a long hike and get to enjoy Oak Creek, too. Very scenic!
