Saturday evening I met up with John Mumaw, an awesome photographer out of Cortez, Colorado. Check out his website for some stunning work: http://www.pbase.com/johnsgallery/caughtintime
We talked for a little while and then went on our separate ways to explore the falls. We briefly chatted again after sunset before I left and he hung around to shoot twilight. That night I drove to Prescott to stay at my parents' townhouse.
Sunday morning I got up to drive up to Sedona in order to check out Encinoso Falls. Well, they were bone dry. I anticipate Encinoso Falls being at the top of my list for at least the next few years. I like a good challenge, and catching something like that at the right time in the right year is kind of like defeating nature.
Anyhow, still being in waterfall mode, I beelined back to Grand Falls (I know I could have done a great hike in Sedona, but I was determined to get images this weekend.) Sunday at Grand Falls brought at least twice the visitors as Saturday. I had some serious camera envy, too. Never have I seen so many really, really, really expensive cameras in one area (that wasn't a sporting event or something). Even more odd was all the yuppies with 5D mkII's split before the light got good. Curious... They probably had to make it to the car wash in Flagstaff in time.
All bitter, judgemental remarks aside, it was a fun trip. I love Grand Falls. |
