Was windy one day and as we approached a cluster of small oak trees a black bear leaped up about 10 feet away and we both stared at each there for a nanosecond. He obvously was napping and did not hear or smell us coming. Then he took off at a full run, crashing through the brush. I learned several things in that nanosecond. First if he charged instead of running there is no way you could get a gun out fast enough to shoot him. My camera was close by and I couldn't even get a picture off. Secondly there is no way to do anything you read in the textbooks other than crap yourself and hope you taste bad. |
