| I can not put into words how this hike went. But I can describe actions
We began the trip in two groups. The 'Shangri-La six' arrived at Chris's house at o'dark thirty and the 'tolerable tetrad' met at the casino and then unto the trailhead. I rode with Chris aka Tony Stewart and we made record time up to the the trailhead.
Everybody said hi to everybody at the trailhead except for one individual who prefers not to be named but whose name rhymes with Poe Cartels.
The weather was beautiful when we left the trailhead about 7:45 and we walked briskly. About a mile in we came to about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile 20 degree climb and it was a nice way to get the heart pumping as we ascended into the pines.
When we all met up at the Parsnip Springs sign, Joe lured a few of our group on a different path with tales of easy trails, waterfalls and 70 virgins awaiting us.
It started out pleasant enough as the trail was easily seen and marked well. But when we started traversing fallen trees over 30 ft drop-offs, climbing 40ft trickling waterfalls and warding off flying monkeys: I started questioning Joe's sincerity.
Although, it wasn't all Joe promised, it was a lot of fun figuring out the path together as a group and enjoying the unpredictability of it all.
When we finally met up with the 'switchback six', they were already on their way back and we had to eat and run.
Unfortunately, I dehydrated myself at some point and my legs started cramping up at about mile 10 and I took it easy the rest of the way. (I wonder if my cramps had anything to do with Joe spitting on the gypsy woman and then he told her his name was Groth...hmmm)
Anyway, the hike was well worth any pain i might have endured.
As with any hike, everybody finished at different times and while I was ready to leave, I applaud Joe for making sure that we all stayed until the very last person was accounted for. How did he put it? "All for one, and one for all!"
Exactly what I would expect from the captain of HAZ. I salute you Joe |
