Linda has only been out hiking a couple times this year so getting UP the Bluff Springs Trail took a little extra but she made it with flying colors. I did run into one of the people that was going to come on this trip but opted for the Weaver's Crosscut instead. The fellow she and another hiker was with though, were headed up the Cave Trail when they stopped to see where I was going and then realized they were going the wrong way. Well, they could go that way but I don't think that's what they had in mind for their trip.
Once you get to the saddle above Lower Barks, it's all down hill. The first mile in Lower Barks is the best in regards to water this trip. After that, it's just a matter of finding the best route through, around and over the boulders and other obstacles .
I was disappointed with the water flow considering we'd had some decent moisture recently but it just didn't seem to stay in Lower Barks. There were many empty pools. It made it easier to hike but took some of the beauty away. The one thing about this part of the hike is you do have to work it so the sight of the Lost Dutchman Trail always makes me smile.
The weather was beautiful and the desert is just starting to put its green on. As for flora, I did see some Amsonia http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=125212(photo is what it will look like, my photo will show it before it gets to that point) sprouting from its dormancy and dried leaves. I think I saw one wiry lotus. We saw lots of lizards and as for people, we saw none on the Lower Barks and I think two on the Lost Dutchman portion. We saw maybe 1/2 dozen on Bluff Springs Trail.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
