The NF chose to let the lightning caused fire to burn. Two days later, it was 750 acres...a few more days 3k,next day 6k,three more days 10k. On June 24th, with pressure from trapped N. Rim people, the NF decided to do something. They called in the NAZ IMT(google it if interested) June 26th 30k, June 27th about its peak of 55-60k. The increase from the 26th to 27th, most of the increase was due to backfires set. The fire was controlled by Independence Day. Sometimes fires need to burn in places that are properly managed, but this was not the place.
Anyways....hiking on...
It was wicked hot for the next 7 or so miles and it was boring on the dirt road. The only pluses were kicking up some deer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1f9lzmpP9R0 and the few and far in between views. I was getting hungry and needed a break. I ate my PBJ and downed a couple packs of Scooby snacks and I was off once again. I picked up my cache and was now about 9 miles from the end of the passage.
Before Ridge tank, there is some kind of water containment structure not sure what its for though. Things got better on this section, Ridge tank was looking pretty full but I skipped my swim. Soon I passed an old corral and before I knew it I was at the Orderville TH. I finished up by hiking to 89a. Now all I had was 2.5 miles to Jacob's lake Inn. The first half mile uphill. Someone had removed my TH cache...luckily I didn't need it. I did however look forward to the food, shower and beer waiting for me at Jacob's Lake Inn. |
