| no partners | | Today was a great day for a short hike. I haven't hiked this area since about May when the heat set in. The parking lot at First Water was nearly full at about 9:30 AM. This was the second time I used my new Osprey Stratos 24 day pack. I highly recommend it for the comfort and features. It has the Airspeed mesh back which keeps your back from sweating. It has two zippered pockets on the waistbelt and one on the shoulder strap. You have to pair it with the Osprey 3 liter bladder and hose which comes with the magnet to attach the bite valve to the chest strap (Awesome Feature). I saw no horses today and only four groups of hikers including a group that camped out at Garden Valley. I turned left on the trail that heads northwest across Garden Valley and made the drop into the canyon by Hackberry spring. There was a steady flow of water exiting the pipe as always. Today though, the bees owned the watering hole. I couln't even get close with my filter. I'll bet there were 1,000 flying around the water. Saw another camper down in the canyon by the huge sycamore tree and he was going to try his luck filtering some water. Saw a really old airplane that flew right over my head at Garden Valley. Anyone know what kind it was? Ahh, the cooler weather is here. Time to wander deeper into the Supes!!! |
