| partners | | After working a halfday, I ran out with some friends to hit this short & sweet local canyon. The Roost gets some action but I doubt many parties have continued down & descended the canyon. The hike starts just like a regular Robbers Roost trip by hiking up Carney Springs trail to West Boulder Saddle and take the use trail east along the mesa to the canyon that the Roost is in. We geared up in the there and did a short 10ft drop to a down climb to another 80ft double drop rappel. From there it's mucho bushwhacking down the open drainage though it eventually reaches a nice slickrock section. We were getting short on time as we kept pushing for the big drop but after much thrashing & down climbing we eventually reached it. We setup the 240ft drop and started slowly making our way down that mostly sloping drop. Watch out for loose rocks since they bounce down the ramp to your buddies below. It was dark by the time we were all down and pulled ropes but we were fairly close to the lower trail. Some down climbing after that final rappel before hitting some thick bushwhacking. Once down into the flatter area, you'll want to cut west to reconnect with the trail and an easy walk back to the TH. |
