Rec area at the top of SR89a...just to see what's what...then on another whim looked at the Mingus Area Recreation Map (we got this free from Granite Mtn. Outfitters in Prescott) and saw trail #28 listed (Yeager Canyon)...then on a final whim, I found and read the trail description within Ron Smith's Prescott Trail book (also purchased at said Outfitters) and decided to "Just Do It".
Wife and I took off around mid-day...and enjoyed a clear sky and gentle breeze. Very slow going down...(She's let herself go a bit and NOT in the best hiking shape (GOD I hope she doesn't read this )) so we both decided about 1/2 way down, that she would stay put at the bottom and I would return back with the vehicle to pick her up.
After a smooch goodbye, I hauled BOOTY back up (struggling a bit at the stretch just below the Limestone outcropping (steeper area))...after a quick breather and a sip from the nalgene I shifted gears and finished up...almost getting ran over by 5 downhill mtn. bikers (helmet cams included)...
After reaching the top, I sped back down to PU wife and then we were off to Jerome for some blue-corn enchilada's at 15.quince!!
YUM! |
