So we did a Saturday night Oro Valley party for his send off, only 2 months left in the war zone - God's speed brave soldier!
Sunday morning I woke at 0600 and headed over to the Wetlands. Boy Gummo was right.... those Red Winged Blackbirds don't shut up I saw many varieties of birds, although none of the tropical varieties I was hoping for, many have migrated out already. 2 Belted Kingfishers were flying about, but they were always on the sunny side and I could not get a photo. There are many types of large lizards running around, at almost every footstep, brown rats abound as well as bunnies and coyotes. The highlight was a large Great Horned Owl nest in a Eucalyptus tree, she had 3 visible babies and 2 hawks were building their own nest as well. Many varieties of ducks are still around the pond areas, such as the the Ruddy duck A.K.A "Blue billed duck" and many Cinnamon colored ducks.
Around 0945 my wife was texting and nagging me to return to the hotel and go to breakfast enough said, so my days was done. This area is comparable to the Gilbert Riparian Preserve, but it has much more shoreline access and the ponds are all full of water - no mud running |
