Amateur Radio field day- viewtopic.php?t=6978
Joined our HAZ- BEEBEE(Brian) and his east Mesa Superstition ARC Amateur Radio Club for a few hours this Saturday PM on the Mogollon Rim (FR218-Milk Point Ranch Road car camp) to visit and see them in action participating in the yearly ARRL Field Day..
"To experience Armature radio in the field. The Club members will be setting up antennas and radio equipment to communicate with other stations around the country and the world. ARRL Field Day is the single most popular on-the-air event held annually in the US and Canada. Each year over 35,000 amateurs gather with their clubs, friends or simply by themselves to operate.
ARRL Field Day is not a fully adjudicated contest, which explains much of its popularity. It is a time where many aspects of Amateur Radio come together to highlight our many roles. While some will treat it as a contest, most groups use the opportunity to practice their emergency response capabilities."
It was very interesting to see such a dedicated group of enthusiasts in a hobby that does require some technical-electrical savvy..radios/antennas and more..to excel (which I readily admit I'm without).
Brian presently has the most advanced Amateur Radio license offered by the FCC and is a wealth of knowledge and experience.
I have had an amateur radio in my Jeep since YR2000 and I presently have the beginner class, first level license know as a "Technician License". Between YR2004 and this April'12 my Amateur Radio had been "on the blink". Brian stopped by one day this past April'12 and with his knowledge and electrical troubleshooting ability, he fixed my radio in thirty minutes and I am again "on the air"--> KG6DNP.. Thank you again, Brian--> W7JET
It was a fun and educational afternoon visiting with you and your club participating in the yearly
ARRL Field Day. |
