| no partners | | I pulled up to the Little Yeager Trailhead on Highway 89A after work and decided to check out Little Yaeger Canyon itself, drawn in by its limestone cliffs and the possibility of a waterfall. I passed a few small falls, then scrambled up the canyon side to the base of the limestone cliffs to look for caves. None found.
The sun was setting, so I dropped back into the canyon and continued following it up. I soon entered a very pretty area filled with maple thickets and a few aspens. Rocky canyon walls rose high above to the south. If the growing darkness hadn't spurred me on, I would have lingered a bit in that area. Nearing the route of the Yeager Cabin Trail, I hiked out of Little Yaeger Canyon and followed the trail back in the quickly fading dusk (I'm not a fan of off-trail hiking in the dark unless I've done that route before).
The upper part of Little Yaeger Canyon, above the 6400 foot contour, is a very pretty and secluded area. It could be very colorful when autumn rolls around... |
