After having a wonderful vacation it's hard to go back to standard hiking. Therefore a canyon trip was needed. I scheduled Sabino Box and an up canyon explore on Alt meetup and it filled up quickly, even with all my warnings:

"Do you love Poison Ivy? Do you love being scratched up and bloody? Do you love the potential to tumble down a steep slope? If so, please join me on this awesome adventure. The faint of heart need not apply"

I guess there are a bunch of crazies in the Alt group :) Everything I promised was delivered.

The morning started out with the threat of rain. The mountain was socked in but we decided to go on anyway. I kept in mind that if it did rain we may have to bail and return the way we came instead of exploring upper Sabino.

The trip down Box Spring "Trail" was full of poison ivy and extremely steep. We also were able to access the Box this time. Gary brought some webbing and it allowed us to safely drop into the water without having to worry about the rushing waterfall right next to us. We managed to get Joel to come in with us. It was fun to check the whole box out instead of just looking at it longingly.

On the way out of the box I encountered some issues, I couldn't hold myself up while half in the cold water and swing one of my legs (with the extra water weight in my Gortex boots) over the lip into the "cave". We ended up having Gary go first and I gave him a bit of a butt boost which is difficult when you can't touch ground. Then we kind of climbed up Gary.

Then we headed up Sabino Canyon. We rock hopped, scrambled, hiked up steep banks, until we reached the Sunset Trail. Then we made our way on the routes in Bear Wallow to the cars.

Awesome day, awesome people. It's nice to have a group of people all capable and willing!
