| no partners | | I've always wanted to hike FW > Canyon Lake and finally got the chance to do so. We did this backwards, first leaving a truck at First Water TH and then driving to Canyon Lake. The Boulder Canyon trail in this direction is a chore, a slow steady climb up to the nameless hill that overlooks the lake. The ocotillo blooming at the top of the hill made the climb worthwhile (check out the pix).
We saw very few people on the trail today. We ran into a couple of lost hikers while we were climbing up the hill on Second Water Trail after the junction with Boulder Canyon Trail. They had hiked the Black Mesa loop counterclockwise and turned right at the Black Mesa / Second Water trail junction instead of left. They were headed into Boulder Canyon thinking the First Water TH parking lot was that direction. We gave them our extra water and hiked them back out to First Water TH. |
