| no partners | | Family members in town for a few days and they love to hike. On past visits they always eyed Pk 5024 and the Flat Iron, so I took them up Siphon Draw to the Pk and then over to Flat Iron. We also visited the blackened Hoo Doo from the plane accident that occurred at Thanksgiving time 2011.
The hike up (and down) was a bit more challenging than normal, since we had running water and mud on the flat rock basin, and in the boulder field above. We just took it slow and had no issues.
I was surprised to see few hikers going up Siphon Draw on a Sunday morning (8:00 AM), possibly the 40 degree temp was the reason. Once we were atop Pk 5024, and then on the Flat Iron, hikers started to come up en-masse. Good for them.
We wandered all over Pk 5024 and even went out on the ridgeline a short distance before moving on to the Flat Iron.
Great views as usual, and my family members had a great time. They were very tired, as we drove away, but had smiles on their faces while they looked back at what they just accomplished. |
