Now for something different and just for fun! On my way to Joshua Tree NP there was a must see place that had been on my to do list since I was young (and that means a long, long time ago  ). As a kid in the 1950's I enjoyed monster and flying saucer movies of the time, then by my early teens became interested in UFOs. I became aware of the stories of the contactees and even went to some lectures by them at Town & Country Shopping Center in Phoenix in the early 1960s. Of the post 1947 early wave of contactees, two who were among the most prominent were George Adamski (who lived near Palomar Mountain and claimed to have witnessed a UFO landing near Desert Center in 1952) and George Van Tassel (who lived near Landers at Giant Rock and claimed that a UFO landed there in 1953 and the occupant gave him instructions on how to construct what would become the Integratron). From 1954 to 1977 Van Tassel held his annual "Giant Rock Spacecraft Convention" at Giant Rock. This was a popular event for the "true believers" and hucksters in the late 1950's and into the 1960's. (Modern day UFO conventions aren't much different, just more sophisticated)

I've maintained my interest in UFOs, most recently focusing on the Roswell Incident. I loved the short-lived TV series "Roswell" (or the story of "teenage alien angst" as I like to refer to it  ). But I have evolved into being pretty skeptical of all this stuff over the years. ;) The liklihood of us being visited (at least in modern times) seems rather low or non-existent, but the concept of it sure is interesting.

The Integratron is a another example of weirdness in the Southern California desert! I haven't gone inside the dome yet, but hope to one day. :)

There once was a note, pure and easy...
