Figured I would be able to reach the top before either happened, but the atmosphere got churning pretty quickly. Rain began just before I reached Bellows Spring, so I headed back down. Never really got to be more than light, but I wasn't interested in any potential hypothermia situation. Heard my first thunder about the time I got back to Josephine Saddle. A couple of other hikers reached the top during the first round of showers and they said there was rain and a little sleet, but nothing too inconvenient. I suspected the storms today would be wimpy, and they were. But I didn't mind playing it safe, and once I got below Josephine the rain stopped and I enjoyed a leisurely walk back to the car. My first summit of Wrightson was on June 10, 1983. Maybe I should do an anniversary hike this year. Love this mountain! |
