Drove over on Thursday the 5th and spent two nights at the Sage Inn. This location at Cerrillos Boulevard and Guadalupe Street allowed me to walk to the downtown plaza area and over to the park for Zozobra. Also, it was an easy walk over to the restaurant (about a mile) Friday for lunch.
This was my third time to see Zozobra burn in the last four years. This year in response to complaints by the locals, ticket prices were cut from 20 to 10 dollars, and an area was set aside for families to bring in their baby strollers, etc. and sit in a grassy section to enjoy the show, away from the main crush of folks on the ball field. This was a nice touch and made it more of a community event, like in previous times. Also, the organizers patterned it after shows in earlier decades. I'm a newbie to this thing and don't have historical perspective, but from what I have read these moves paid off. Attendance was up from 2012, when it was the lowest of record in recent times. People had really complained about the high ticket prices and increased restrictions, and the organizers listened and streamlined the event.
