But it rained most of the morning of the planned day-hike so we cancelled and just explored the orchard and some of the Salado ruins closer to the ranch once it let up. There is plenty of water there although the stream was not running until after the rain. The apples are nearly all fallen from the trees and most of those that are left on the trees are near the top and have been partially eaten by the birds. We did manage to find a few though. My wife says they taste better than those you buy at the store. I agree that they sure were good. I saw a lot of bear sign in the area. Looks like the bears agree too and decided to fatten up for the winter on them. The last night of our stay was probably close to freezing since we found frost on everything when we woke up. The fall leaves are beautiful and there are still some wildflowers. We had the place all to ourselves one of the nights. Nice and secluded. I love it there! |
