The trek up to Rogers Trough is a long bumpy road that will most likely take a 4x4, especially if you are pulling trailers. We took mules and horses up and just a precaution long horse trailers will not make the switchback near the top the road about ½ mile from Rogers Trough trailhead. You can park your trailers before you reach the top, about 2 miles away just after you cross the cattle guard. There was water in the tank for those that need it. Then ride the rest of the way to Rogers Trough.

Rogers Trough is a nice and secluded place for those that just want to camp in a pleasant campsite and enjoy the views. They also have a horse pole for a place to tie to. We intended to go to Reavis Ranch for some apples but decided that it had not froze yet and it would probably be good to wait until the first frost which, will be about later end of October or Early November so that the apples were good and crisp. Looking out at some of hikes online I see that the apples are large and there are many. We also heard that bears are in the area feasting as usual on the apples (precaution). Not to scare any one but don't be caught off guard if you see them.

The night we stayed it was pleasant weather, but you will want to bring a cot to sleep on because scorpions, spider and fake scorpions are out. We took some photos of the bugs and I put one up of the tarantula but I will spare you the others since most are blurry because it was at night.

We woke early the next morning early and saddled up and took off toward the cliff dwellings that we heard were closer than Reavis Ranch. I was a nice ride but we also had some of us hiking on in. The hills at first are up and down but fairly nice. Bring long sleeve shirts because the gottcha bushes are out in numbers as you hike. The trail was over grown a bit from the new rains and we cleaned a little on the way so that we could get thru. But the trail for most of the way is down hill and not too rigorous for those in shape. There are some grapes down the trail but most have shriveled to nothing. The canyons are beautiful and the black walnut trees seem to line the canyon along with many other species. We hiked almost to the cliff dwellings and stopped and ate lunch than headed back. The hike back seemed easier than going in. Overall we could not have asked for a more fun and beautiful place to hike.
