It was put under siege by the Union for 12 days during he civil war and taken before the Union took New Orleans. It was also used as a prison. Unfortunately, the Fort closes at 3 pm so the only way for me to see it is on a weather day. There is an older Fort across the river accessible only by boat. Back to work. Last two toes have yet to heal or decide what they are going to do. Toes hurt with every step, but bearable. Hoping to go back and visit inside on a weather day. There is a moat around the entire fort. |
