| no partners | | After lunch we headed to Havasu, mile 157, always a high point of any River trip. It is also a very challenging approach to get the boats up against the rock ledges near the stream’s mouth in the middle of a rapid. Again JP made it with no problems but he wasn’t smiling until after we got the lines secured and everyone off the boats. The turquoise waters of Havasu were running low, but a large school of Flannel Mouth Suckers were spawning in the shallow mouth of the creek. Made for an interesting sight.
We hiked up the right side and then waded across and went up through the tunnel on the left. From there it is just crossing where you have to keep going up. We finally found some falls and a deep pool and hung there for a while.
I spent my time photographing, knowing it was an impossible to capture the beauty of the place. Mary Jo jumped from a room-sized boulder into an aqua pool holding hands with Scott. Later she picked a fist full of gravel out of her underwear. It wasn’t a deep pool!
There’s just not another location on the planet like Havasu. All too soon we had to leave. This is truly God’s playground. |
