| no partners | | I gave this a generic name because it seems there there are quite a few people who do this trek, but there's no specific GPS or route description page. Essentially, this is the shortest route, out and back, to the top of Union Peak (also called Peak 2383 on some trip descriptions).
I started off at the Desert Vista Trailhead. The sequence of trails followed, by official name, are:
Hawk's Nest
Desert Tortoise
Valle Verde
Great Horned Owl (clockwise)
Union Peak
This sequence makes it just over 3 miles to the official end of the Union Peak Trail at the marker, on the lowest summit just past the high summit (you will know what I mean when you're up there).
The trails are well marked, although I do wish that the trail markers would have NAMES on the trails, not just the one- or two-letter abbreviations and the QR code. Would it have hurt to fit in "Valle Verde" instead of just a big "V"? Anyway, I digress. The only goof I made was veering off on to the Cactus Wren trail because I thought that was what would get me to the Union Peak trail; I very quickly realized it was not.
All trails are in very good condition and the gradient up to the top of Union Peak, while steepest of this hike, is still very doable. The views are awesome in all directions from the peak.
I returned the way I came. I posted just a few pics; mid-day hiking doesn't give me the light I like best for taking photos  |
